Johnine Balisi

My name is Johnine (pronounced like Janine). My interest in art and design led me to pursue undergraduate studies in Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. I completed five semesters of studies before we moved to Canada. After we arrived here in Calgary, I continued taking online courses while working, and obtained an AutoCAD operator certificate of Achievement from SAIT. Afterwards, I decided to study at Mount Royal University, taking a communications program majoring in Information Design. I have learned a lot of new skills from spending a few years there, but it made me realize that I was more technically inclined, and that too much artistic freedom was more confusing for me.

I think of design as analyzing and applying a set of rules, problem-solving, and continuous learning – which may be a bit too logical – so I thought being a technologist would suit me better and pursued (and thankfully finished!) Architectural Technologist studies at SAIT while working part-time. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at SAIT, and I am grateful to have gained a great deal of knowledge and skills that I can bring with me throughout my career.

As a recent graduate, I am actively seeking employment as a junior technologist in the field of construction. I am a hard worker and I am able to work and keep calm under pressure. I enjoy working with teams, but I am also confident in my ability to work individually. My goal is to apply and develop my technical and creative skills to contribute to the company I will be working with, and gain valuable experience for professional and personal growth.
